Coastlines. Mar Menor critical cartography workshop

The 1st Conference of Critical Cartography of the Mar Menor is proposed as a space for collective encounter and reflection to create a cartography of the Mar Menor that gathers personal experiences, memories, wishes and expectations of the participants.

Using collaborative mapping methodologies and through the use of graphic and visual supports, we will work with alternative representations of the territory that offer a more complete and complex vision of the reality of this natural environment in crisis. We will approach different layers of analysis (image and media, migrations, environmental crisis, economic flows, etc …) to establish mechanisms to find links between the different generated maps, point out problems, visualize resistances and ultimately, create new stories for the territory.

Just as the coastlines change according to the tides and their cartographic representation is uncertain and imprecise, the maps are incomplete representations of the territory insofar as this is not only space but also place, time, memory and habitat.
