The Bajo la manga’s project is a type of sound and visual performance which talks about the problems of La Manga, in the Mar Menor salt water lagoon, and with the aim of highlight the pollution that exists on this territory and the serious degeneration of that unique ecosystem. For this purpose, Laboratorio de Luz used the acquisition of audio using underwater microphones in three main and different points of interests on the zone:
- A very polluted area, where a torrent of waste still carries pollutants from the old mining activity.
- A point of human impact and architectural massification with the excessive construction of tourist apartments.
- The location of the salt mines, which is a natural site and without too much human intervention.
Interacting with the sound of these recordings it is possible to make a concert of sound improvisation that is articulated in three parts, each one responding to the organization structures of those problems.
At a visual level, some video images have been incorporated and generated by sound data with a second projection that combines images of the area: diatoms algae, recordings on the map, images of the recordings, etc.
The idea is to emphasize that the natural park is in a complicated environmental situation.
